Call for Submissions: 2009

Newtown Theatre (producers of Short + Sweet) is now calling for submissions from Australian theatre makers wishing to stage seasons in 2009.

The venue is centrally located on the corner of King & Bray Streets, Newtown, 200 metres north of St Peters Station with free parking for over 200 cars at the Sydney Park Brickworks only 300 metres away. In recent months the company has undertaken further refurbishment of the venue which features a large foyer area and licensed bar. Recent technical upgrades include: three phase power, air conditioning, new single seating to replace the benches, renovated dressing rooms, new (paintable) stage area (50 sq metres).

Expert technical advice is available for all productions. Newtown, and the inner west, is home to a large population of theatre goers. In-house marketing and ticketing support can be supplied to all companies. In the first instance please submit an expression of interest to our General Manager, Malcolm Frawley via malcolm@shortandsweet.org

Your expression of interest should include an overview of the work you are intending to stage (synopsis of play + artistic vision) together with brief biographies of key personnel - Director, Writer, Cast (if known) and other Creative Team members. A copy of the play is not necessary at this point. While no restrictions are placed on the type of works submitted we encourage home-grown theatre where possible or innovative productions of more traditional or international plays.

The deadline for this round of submissions is Monday 29th September.
