NOT A WHO-DUNNIT... BUT A WHO’S-GUNNA-GET-IT??!!

The Bridesmaid Must Die comes to Newtown

In a vengeful twist on the classic ‘bridesmaid from hell’ scenario, Newtown Theatre presents an interactive play that lets the audience bump-off a bridesmaid each night!

Sydney’s most prolific writer of romantic comedies is finishing the year with a ‘bang’!
Wayne Tunks has had a huge 2006: his smash hit play, The Subtle Art of Flirting continued its mammoth success, selling out all over Sydney and he debuted two new plays, We’ll Always Have Wagga and Birthdays, Christmas & Other Family Disasters to huge houses and critical praise. Now the writer-director brings black-wearing Newtown his blackest comedy to date, “The Bridesmaid Must Die!”

Bridesmaid is set the night before the society wedding of the year. Bride-to-be Yasmine gets together with her mother and her three bridesmaids to celebrate, but by the night’s end, one bridesmaid will be dead. But who will die is not written in the stars... or even in the script!  Each night the audience gets to choose which bridesmaid bites the big one!

Says Tunks: “Admit it, haven’t you always wanted to see a bridesmaid die?
“Here is your chance! This is interactive theatre where the audience vote seal the fate of a blushing bridesmaid.”

Catherine McGraffin, (Charitable Intentions, Ensemble) stars as the blushing bride, while accomplished stage performer and teacher Jane Seymour plays her savage society mother, Raylene.

The bridesmaids are: Emma Wood (Birthdays, Christmas & Other Family Disasters) as Yasmine’s suicidal, lesbian beatnik poet sister Julia; Renee Lim (We’ll Always Have Wagga) as matron-of-honour, the trampy Bree; Emma Harris (The Caucasian Chalk Circle, New Theatre) as fool for love, the incredibly sweet Phillipa.
Short & Sweet star Iain PF McDonald is the hapless groom Caleb, and Wayne Tunks himself reprises his role as Lucas, Phillipa’s very unstable stalking ‘ex’.
