THE FUTURE PLANNERS “Sandpit Productions” is a new co-operational theatre company formed by Stephanie Ward and James Hart, both recent acting graduates from Charles Sturt University. The company was launched in 2005 with a highly successful regional tour of “The Future Planners”. The company aims to create and produce new Australian theatre and to provide a creative platform to express, nurture and debate the views and ideas of the emerging generation. PRODUCERS: James Hart and Stephanie Ward (Sandpit Productions) WRITER: Stephanie Ward DIRECTOR: Stephanie Ward CAST: Stephanie Ward and James Hart DESIGN TEAM: Oscar Meek and Phillip Berry Bonnie is compelled by a series of visions and an unwavering faith in a spiritual guiding force to build a bunker to protect herself and only one other of her choosing from unknown cataclysmic events. Bonnie and her friend Greg are the “chosen ones”. As their food supplies dwindle to a “seemingly endless supply of tinned peaches” their memories of their past become their sustenance. Time becomes the ultimate enemy and they must develop new rules, rituals and games to occupy them in this underground world. As they reflect upon times gone by, the audience slowly pieces together the nature of their relationship prior to these events, subsequently posing questions regarding the reality of the current situation. Were the visions real? What is the real motive behind Bonnies’ actions? Will they survive each other before being released into the new world? Why are they being tested? A black comedy, this play is character driven, exploring the nature of relationships under extreme circumstances. Fast paced and energetic, this production bounces from moments of high comedy to the very dark and disturbing. With original guitar music played throughout this production has already engaged regional audiences to very high acclaim. 30th August running until the 16th of September.
