HOT LATE NIGHT SHOW THIS DECEMBER AT NEWTOWN

THE COLOR OF AUGUST by Paloma Pedrero

This racy ‘two-hander’ stars the gorgeous Mariana Soares and Paula Roman, both fresh from New York City. Directed by Mark Cleary.

The meeting of two women – both talented artists - discloses a steamy but inverted power relationship, at its root a man for whom they have both been rivals.

The play encompases sexual differences, androgyny and - in its famous poetic symbolism - feminine biology.

Paloma Pedrero is one of contemporary Spain's most exciting playwrights. Her work is gritty, searingly honest and deals with themes of personal relationships and sexual identity in a style of poetic realism.

This season shows off the multilingual skills of its two actors with selected performances entirely in Spanish. Born in Brazil, Mariana Soares has extensive stage and screen credits in both Australia and the US in English, Spanish and Portuguese language productions. Paula Roman trained in Spain as first a medical doctor and then an actor before moving to New York. She has an impressive list of credits in American and Spanish stage and screen productions.

Playwright, producer and director, Mark Cleary is the Artistic Director of Newtown Theatre and Short & Sweet International.

The Colour of August plays 10.15 pm Tues-Sat,
