NEW BITTERSWEET ROMANTIC COMEDY FOR SYDNEYUNREQUITEDWhy do the ones we love never seem to love us in return? A new bitter-sweet play by Wayne Tunks - arguably Sydney’s most prolific and popular writer of romantic comedy - opens May 30 at the Newtown Theatre.
A group of recent University graduates can’t seem to leave the past behind. Falling in and out of love, but still holding on to the one flame they have always held. And on one tension-filled evening, secrets will be shared, friendships will end, love will be discovered and one man must say goodbye to the only love he has ever known. Part heartfelt drama, part biting comedy, this play is directed by Greg Hatton and produced by the writer. Wayne Tunks’ recent work includes three sellout seasons of The Subtle Art of Flirting, and two huge runs each of We’ll Always have Wagga and The Bridesmaid Must Die! and a number of acclaimed short plays as part of Short & Sweet. In addition, Riverina Theatre Company has just announced his 2006 hit, Birthdays, Christmas & Other Family Disasters will open its 2008 subscription season. UNREQUITED also features a brilliant cast headed by Kate Maree Hoolihan (Helpmann Award winner for We Will Rock You & The Boy from Oz), and international star Scott Major (Always Greener, Heartbreak High, Neighbours) just returned from the UK, along with Logie nominee Christie Hayes (Home & Away, Noir), Rick Cosnett(Short, Sweet & Song, Birthdays, Christmas & Other Family Disasters), Catherine Kelleher (lead singer of band Kiosk – who performed at this year’s Big Day Out) as well as Tunks himself.
