Romance, Rivalry, Raunch... and the Riverina! WE’LL ALWAYS HAVE WAGGA at NEWTOWN THEATRE
Boy meets girl, boy leaves girl, boy meets other girl, girl meets other boy, girl leaves boy, boy stalks girl.... and that’s just the first act! That’s right, it’s romance in the exotic Riverina (no, not the Riviera!) from 14 June when Newtown Theatre presents play whose warmth (and body heat!) is bound to blow away those winter blues.
Bella had it all while attending Uni at Wagga: a promising acting career and the love of her life, Adrian. Ten years later she’s back in Sydney, single and working in a café. Her latest ex-boyfriend Sonny is stalking her, her heavily pregnant ex-best friend Gina won’t let her forget her woes and her co-worker Daria - an ex-cult member with serious mental problems – is no help at all! Her only salvation is her best friend Heath, who can’t seem to stop telling people exactly what he thinks of them! Bella’s life is ready to explode when Adrian walks into her café – and back into her life - with his fiancée, Josephine in-tow. What happens next is the delicious food of Wayne Tunks’ latest romantic comedy, a hearty follow-up to his smash hit “The Subtle Art of Flirting” that recently sold out in three city seasons and a suburban tour. Renee Lim (writer, director and star of numerous Short and Sweet favourites) stars as Bella with Sam Atwell (regular cast member of Home & Away, Headland) opposite her as Adrian. Toby Levins is the creepy Sonny, a heavily-pregnant Charlene Ramage (The Bridesmaid Must Die!) plays the heavily-pregnant Gina (!) and Emma Harris (Caucasian Chalk Circle) the freaky Daria. The playwright Wayne Tunks as the loose-tongued Heath and Stella McDonald as Josephine plus Andrew Steel and Lynden Jones complete this strong cast. Nicole da Silva co-directs.
